Casata Monfort "Blanc de Sers"

Blanc de Sers is part of a project in which Casata Monfort, in collaboration with a small group of local growers, is recuperating and making wine from traditional Trentino autochthonous vines. Blanc de Sers is produced from the Wanderbara, Vernaza, Veltliner Rosato and Nosiola varieties. Serso, a tiny village near Pergine, is the area best adapted to the production of white wines in the Valsugana valley. Here, hillside vineyards between 500 and 650 meters above sea level are sheltered from the north winds but well ventilated and are exposed to the sun for the entire day. 

The finished wine has a delightfully floral and citrus bouquet with good persistence.  On the palate, it suggests some of the delicacy of the Nosiola but then reveals a much fuller structure with surprising depth.  The fruit is crisp and complex, with hints of peach and dried herbs.  Blanc de Sers is an excellent aperitif and a perfect match for shellfish, fin fish, sautéed vegetables, lemon roasted chicken, and herb-crusted pork tenderloin.
