Casata Monfort Trentino Lagrein Label

Casata Monfort Trentino Lagrein

Lagrein is a native grape of the Adige valley.  While better known in the province of Bolzano, it finds occasional good sites in Trentino.  Casata Monfort’s Lagrein for this cuvee comes from the hills near the town of Meano. The wine is vinified in stainless steel, using extended juice/skin contact for maximum extraction.  It is then racked to small Slovenian oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and aging.

A medium-bodied red with a wild berry aroma, lively mouth-feel, and vigorous tannins, Lagrein will complement dense soups (mushroom-barley, lentil), breaded white-meat cutlets (chicken, pork, veal), meat-sauced pastas, roasted sausages with pepper and onions, roasted lamb with potatoes, stewed or sautéed rabbit and milder cheeses (young pecorino, fontina.)
