Casata Monfort Trentino Pinot Nero Casata Monfort’s Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) comes from a very small, 11 year old (as of 2006) vineyard plot on one of the hills outside the village of Pergine. This south-facing vineyard sits 500 meters above sea level on sandy, gravelly soil. At this altitude, cool nights extend the growing season and bring out complex aromas in the fruit. Harvest is usually in mid-October. Vinification in stainless steel is followed by racking into new French oak barrique where the wine ages for 12 months before egg-white fining and bottling. Only 650 cases of the 2004 were produced. A well-structured, slow-maturing Pinot Noir, Casata Monfort’s version supports its exposure to oak with flavors of red fruit (sour cherry and raspberry) and hints of spice. |
