Casata Monfort Trentino Traminer Aromatico Label

Casata Monfort Trentino Traminer Aromatico

Casata Monfort’s Traminer is made from grapes named after the south Tyrol village of Tramin (Termeno in Italian).  It is a paler-skinned cousin of the Gewurztraminer, with similar but less intense aroma and somewhat lighter body.  The vineyard source is a small (2 hectare), high-altitude (500 meters asl) plot of 60 year old vines on one of the hills outside the village of Cire’ di Pergine.  This south-facing vineyard sits clayey, porphyritic soil. (Porphyry is igneous rock rich in feldspar.)

The wine is vinified and aged in stainless steel to allow clear development of its distinctive aromas.  Highly floral with hints of exotic fruit (lichee), this Traminer has crisp acidity and good body.  It is an excellent aperitif, as its unique fragrance make it interesting to savor by itself.  At the same time, its structure make it well-suited to food, particularly medium-aged cheeses.
