Gelsomina
Roberto Negri, the producer, has vineyards on opposite sides of Mantova province. Those near Sabbioneta have more calcareous soil, and those near Quingentole have sandier soil. An interesting mix of fruit qualities results, exhibiting a range of color, body, and extract. Besides Ancellotta, the vineyards are also planted with Malani, Salamino and Ruberti. Some of these cultivars are vitis labrusca, responsible for the name of the wine as well as its characteristic flavor. The variety of clones and vineyard sites entails a long harvest, starting in September and finishing in mid-November.
