| Geografico bottles wine exclusively from its own vineyards, comprising over 560 hectares in Chianti Classsico and near San Gimignano. Consultant Lorenzo Landi is one of Tuscany's most sought after winemakers. Gambero Rosso, Italy's leading consumer wine magazine, has consistently rated Geografico as one of the top value producers in Tuscany.
The Agricoltori del Geografico are a cooperative winery at Gaiole in Chianti, the heart of the Chianti Classico. Founded in 1961 by 17 growers, today’s members number two hundred. They own small and medium size vineyards in the best areas of Tuscany. Together, their property covers 571 hectares (1,410 acres) providing enough grapes for Geografico’s average annual production of about 3 million bottles. While all Geografico wines are bottled at the main winery in Gaiole, the company operates a second crush and fermentation facility in San Gimignano where its white wines and Chianti Colli Senesi are vinified. Quality is assured by the technical supervision of Lorenzo Landi, one of Tuscany’s most respected enologists.
Geografico’s mission is to make quality wines accessible to everyone. This is accomplished by producing wines of intrinsic value at a reasonable price. To Geografico, the value of its wines should be tangible to all its customers. For more than 20 years, Geografico has worked towards this end among a crowded field of competitors. They have succeeded in this endeavor through steady improvement in the members’ cultivation techniques, efficient winemaking, (their production facility is large and modern) and persistent work in the market, tasting the wines with the customers. Today the brand is highly regarded in Italy where nearly 70% of the wine is sold. This is most unusual for Italian wineries, which generally rely more heavily on export. |
